Diachron (2026)

A kinetic light installation that examines how controlled movement can shape and transform concentrated light in a space. While the caustics resulting from interactions between a laser and a fresnel lens are the most obvious artistic perspective in this installation, the piece is primarily about the kinetics behind them, precise motions resulting from six stepper motors placed in various positions throughout the room.

Six pulleys, operated by the motors, guide string across the room through custom ceiling and wall mounts, positioning a fresnel lens over a laser beam that extends upwards. As the lens moves, the laser cycles through color, shape, and motion. The resulting caustics are mesmerizing and produce an almost reverent environment.
